Please note: The out-of-hours services should only be used for serious issues that cannot wait until the next available surgery.

Medical Emergencies

If the illness is acute, or the situation is life-threatening or limb-threatening, call 999 or visit Accident and Emergency – Bedford South Wing is the nearest.  Otherwise:

If you require a doctor outside of surgery hours please telephone 111.
111 is the NHS non-emergency number which is fast, easy and free. By calling 111 you will get to speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you. NHS111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobiles.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999.

NHS Choices offers a wealth of information, including a symptom checker that will advise on what to do next.

Putnoe Walk-in Centre

The Centre is open 8.00 am – 6.30 pm every day of the year.  They can treat minor illness and injuries.
